Lockdown 2001
By: Vo0

Around 7:30 PM we went to Lockdown 2001 in The Hanzehallen in Zutphen. Due to the handy toy of my apC's dad, a GPS (Global Position System \0/ ), we hadn't any trouble finding it.

Arrived we had to sign ourselfs in to receive a bracelett as a prove that we had payed. We were allowed to go inside. It was a nice hall (which was unfortunately half-full). We went looking for a spot to place our computers and found one.

Promised was a 100mbit network with internet, but unfortunately we found out that there were some big troubles going on with the network. Internet wasn't working and it wasn't fast at all (even packet loss in q2). The problems became even bigger when a short-circuit occurd. A couple of switches went dead. Due to that the network went temprorarely down. When it was up again we found out that we had only a connection with our own table, and there weren't any q2'ers on it. Only q3/UT/CS, DOH!

When the network was up again, at last, it was only 10mbit. The file transfers were extremely slow, sometimes I even got 10KB/s...

Then it was time to play the compo's. I signed in in the Q2 1on1, Q3 1on1 and Q3 TDM compo with a clan called [NIR]. I won two matches in the Q3 1on1 compo, but then I lost two. I can't remember how the Q3 TDM compo went but I didn't play that bad as I expected. apC also played 3 matches for me because I didn't want to play anymore after a few games (tired and I wanted to leech). In the Q2 1on1 compo my first match was a walk-over, my opponent was sleeping. The second match was a... walk-over. The third match was against [WOG]Deadstar, I won that one easily. Then I had to play Rufus, I lost that one PHAT, but I really wasn't in a mood to play then. Next match (losers bracket) was against VorteX. I had the lead and he gave up. The final was again versus Rufus. It was again a 15 minute q2dm1 match. The first frag was really dumb, and he could frag me 4 more times, until I made my first and last frag. He won 5-1. My price was a game-pack, he won a Creative Soundblaster Live! 5.1 soundcard and a Creative DTT 2200 soundsystem. Funny thing was, I bought the same combo a week before the lan, so I didn't really care that I hadn't won.

I also did some DBZ trading with an unknown guy with CD's, because the network was too slow. I got 151 - 197 complete \0/ . apC spent
much of his time playing a Diablo2 Expansion pack or something.

My mum picked me up at 4:15 PM, and I was home at around 5:30 PM.

It was a nice LAN, but too bad that the network really sucked! I hope next time (Christmas Edition) will be better!
